What Are They Even Saying?! Real English for a New Generation
You learned English, but did anyone teach you what “no cap,” “I’m cooked,” “lowkey,” or “it’s giving…” means?
Welcome to the English you probably won’t find in your textbook!
Designed especially for ESL students, this fun, interactive class helps you understand the slang, expressions, abbreviations, texting language, humour, and everyday conversational English you may hear from friends, classmates, coworkers, and online.
We’ll decode expressions such as rizz, sus, bet, mid, slay, ate, cooked, locked in, no cap, lowkey, vibing, POV, IRL, TBH, NGL and plenty more—while learning something even more important: when, where, and with whom these expressions are appropriate.
You’ll learn the difference between English you should understand and English you might actually want to use.
We’ll also explore how tone, pronunciation, shortened speech, texting, memes, humour, and cultural context can completely change the meaning of a conversation.
The goal isn’t to make you memorize a dictionary of slang. It’s to help you understand what people are really saying, join conversations with greater confidence, and feel less lost when English suddenly doesn’t sound like the English you learned in class.
Because sometimes knowing English isn’t enough–you need to know what everyone is talking about! 😄
